Haut-Médoc from Bordeaux, France

The 2020 Charmail captivates with a bouquet of dark fruits, subtle spices, and floral hints. Powerful yet refined, its polished tannins and seamlessly integrated oak offer a balanced structure that leads to an elegant, lingering finish. With vibrant energy in every sip, this dynamic vintage leaves a lasting impression.

It's no wonder why Château Charmail recently got the Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel classification: it's the result of more than a decade of hard-work and a new approach to vinification, mixing tradition and innovation under the supervision of Hubert de Boüard (La Fleur de Boüard, Angélus). A true gem that keeps getting better every year.

Wine Story

  • Terroir

Château Charmail is situated in the prestigious Haut-Médoc region of Bordeaux, renowned for its exceptional gravelly soils. This unique terroir is ideal for cultivating Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Petit Verdot grapes. The mineral-rich soil imparts distinctive characteristics to the wine, contributing to its complex flavor profile and remarkable aging potential. The interplay between soil, climate, and grape varieties results in a wine that eloquently expresses its origins.

  • Vineyard

The estate encompasses 52 hectares, with vines averaging 30 years of age. Château Charmail is committed to sustainable viticulture, employing environmentally conscious practices throughout the vineyard. This approach not only preserves the ecosystem but also ensures the optimal health and vitality of both soil and vines. The result is consistently high-quality grapes that serve as the foundation for their exceptional wines.

  • Vinification

The wine is matured in a combination of large concrete eggs and demi-muids (600-liter oak barrels). This careful selection of vessels emphasizes the pure expression of fruit while maintaining a harmonious balance with tannin structure. The reduced oak influence allows for a more authentic representation of the wine's intrinsic character. Following this initial phase, the wine undergoes 12 months of aging in French oak barrels, with 30% new oak. This final stage enhances the wine's complexity and facilitates the seamless integration of tannins, resulting in a refined and well-structured wine.
