Description

LUX WINES
LUX: LIGHT, BRILLIANCY, LIFE

“The Benedictine monks, thirsting for the Light which deifies, and the Provençal wine growers basked since their childhood in the beams of a dazzling sun, we would like to take you to the summit, to share with you the joy of the moment when the light, unveiling itself, almost blinds us and reveals the secret of a more excellent way.”

The thousand and one skills of Ars Vinitoris (the art of wine making), the unique character of our terraced vineyards in Le Barroux and Upper Beaumont, the search for the woods capable of subtly enhancing our best grapes… and above all, the love with which monks, nuns and wine growers work in harmony: this is the path which we have followed to lead you to where the blinding light finally enlightens: the true Light is Charity.

Lux Rosé 2021
CELESTIAL BRIGHTNESS

An azure tint, a rose glaze, a golden hue. This wine’s crystalline colour heralds its fine and pure delicacy. Contemplating the Divine Light every day, the monks perseveringly sought to craft a rosé which reflected its brilliant purity.

The Vineyard

This vintage comes from several very complementary parcels – including the parcel above the Clairette, in the Sisters’ enclosed vineyard – bringing the richness of the Ventoux. Here the land consists mostly of a deep layer of clay and lime soil from which the old Grenache receives its profound richness and freshness. The Saint Joseph terroir, facing the monks’ monastery, is planted with Syrah in very sandy soil, in full morning and noon sunlight, lending it a finesse and fruity taste. The mountainous terroir of Hauts de Beaumont, at an altitude of 1500 feet, grows Grenache and Syrah, which bring a very clean purity and luminosity to the wine.

Presentation

This Rosé comes in the same Bourgogne bottles as our Reds and Whites, in the style Agape of Saverglass of an antique dark color (agape is Greek for “love”). The amazing color of our Rosé is eye-catching in a clear bottle, but we have a higher goal than to sell a wine just for its looks. In fact, as a Provençal winemaker justly remarked: “to buy a wine for its color is like buying a painting for its smell!”

Viticultural Work

Above all else, Via Caritatis’ conscientious growing approach is guided by a commitment to the maintenance and service of God’s Creation. Our philosophy is to let nature, through our vines as well as our other products in Provence, produce its fruits in its own timing, today and tomorrow. This is made possible by the perfect microclimate and famous Mistral that help keep the air clean and healthy. The yields are closely monitored according to the different terroirs, vine types, graft carrier, age, and density of the plants.

Vinification and Production

The harvesting is done mostly by hand at the perfect level of ripening, early in the morning, in order to ensure the grapes are perfectly healthy. The grapes are kept in the shade and slowly and carefully brought in one trip to the chai in order to maintain the best freshness. The stems are removed, and the crushing and pressing are done by a low-pressure machine. Once the must has been through the clarification process, it is racked into concrete tanks and fermented at a low temperature. It is aged on thin layer of lees with batonnage style stirring over 6 months.
